In this category, you will find various self-tapping screws.
Self-tapping screws for metal, also known asself-drilling screws, are designed to drill their own hole and cut their own threads in a single operation, thereby eliminating the need for pre-drilling in thin to medium-gauge metals.
Key Features
These screws save a considerable amount of time and are ideal for joining sheet metal and metal profiles, or for securing wood to a metal structure.
Drill point: The tip of the screw is machined like a drill bit, allowing it to drill directly through the material. The size of the point (from #1 to #5) determines the maximum thickness of metal it can drill through; a #5 point can drill through up to 13 mm (0.5 in) of steel.
Thread: The helical body creates a thread that perfectly matches the hole as the screw is driven in, ensuring a secure and precise fastening.
Material: They are typically made of zinc-plated carbon steel (for dry indoor environments) or stainless steel (A2 or A4) for better corrosion resistance, particularly in outdoor or humid environments. Bimetallic versions (carbon steel tip and stainless steel body) are also available to combine drilling performance with rust resistance.
Head types: They come in various shapes (hexagonal, countersunk, domed, etc.) to suit a range of applications and aesthetic finishes. Some, particularly those used for roofing, feature an EPDM sealing washer to ensure a tight seal.
Instructions for Use
For optimal installation, follow these recommendations:
Recommended tool: Use an electric screwdriver capable of delivering the appropriate torque. Avoid impact drivers, as excessive torque can damage the screw or the material.
Material thickness: Make sure the total thickness of the materials to be fastened does not exceed the drilling capacity of the screw's drill point.
Screw-in speed: Start screwing in slowly to ensure proper centering, then increase the speed until the screw head is firmly in contact with the surface, without applying excessive pressure.
All you have to do is choose the lengths, diameters, and quantities you need!
