Hammer- in anchors are a type of wall fixing designed for quick and secure installation, particularly suited to solid materials such as concrete and brick. They are ideal for permanent fixings of light to moderate loads.
Composition and operation
A hammer-in anchor typically consists of a high-quality nylon body and a pre-mounted threaded nail (or special screw).
- How it works: After drilling a hole of the appropriate diameter, the anchor and the item to be fixed are inserted together. The threaded nail is then driven in (struck) using a hammer. This causes the end of the anchor to expand into the material, creating a secure hold.
- Main advantage: The speed of installation, which allows for significant time savings on construction sites.
Suitable use and materials
Hammer-in anchors are versatile, but their optimal effectiveness depends on the substrate material and the load:
- Solid materials (concrete, solid brick): This is their preferred application, where they provide excellent stability. They can support loads of up to 150 kg depending on the model and diameter.
- Hollow materials (Hollow brick, concrete block): Specific models exist (for example, the W-UR 14 anchor from Würth) which are adapted to these supports, thanks to a sleeve which expands during installation.
- Drywall (Placo): These are used to fix light elements such as plasterboard rails, but other types of anchors (such as Molly anchors) are often preferable for heavier loads or if the fixing needs to be removed.
